Pachira is a native of the arid regions of Africa, its close relatives are baobab, durian and breadfruit. Prefers a well-lit place (without direct sunlight), does not tolerate sudden changes in temperature and drafts.
Pakhira refers to the "bottle trees", has a thickening at the bottom of the trunk, which stores water. Its leaves resemble shefflera or chestnut leaves in shape, therefore this plant is also called Guiana or Malabar chestnut.
