An aesthetically beautiful plant - pakhira, the care of which includes a few simple rules, will become an exquisite decoration for your home or office.
It needs warmth and adequate moisture to grow quickly. To maintain decorativeness, she needs a lighted place with a moderate air temperature.
An exotic tree can be grown alone, or several young plants can be planted in a flowerpot at once, and gradually intertwining their trunks with a pigtail, create an original plant. It will take about three years to create such an instance, but the result is worth it. In flower shops, you can easily purchase such a pakhira consisting of several trunks.
Prized for its chic crown and spectacular look. Following the care recommendations, a slender tree will decorate your home for a long time.
Lighting. Pakhira needs a lot of light, otherwise it may lose its decorative effect. But do not place the flower on the south side, direct sunlight will burn the foliage. The best option is to place a flowerpot with pakhira in the eastern part of the apartment. In summer, it is recommended to expose to the open air, having previously chosen a place without drafts, sheltered from the sun's rays.
Temperature. In the warm season, observe the temperature regime - from + 22 to 26 ° C. In winter, temperatures below +16 ° C are not permissible. Excessive cold causes the leaves to curl and darken.
Air humidity. Excessive moisture can cause the trunk to rot. A thermophilic plant feels comfortable in the dry air of a city apartment. However, in the summer heat, spraying the leaves in the morning and evening will not hurt; for this, take settled water at room temperature.
Watering. The plant needs regular and abundant watering with soft water warmer than room temperature. In spring and summer, water after the topsoil has dried, as the tree accumulates moisture in the trunk. In winter, watering is limited.
Top dressing. During the period of active growth, regular fertilizing is carried out every two to three weeks with complex fertilizers. In winter and autumn, feeding is not carried out.
Transfer. To make the plant grow faster, transplant annually into a flowerpot 5 cm larger than the previous one. Mature plants are transplanted as needed.
Choose a container that is not very deep, but wide, since the roots of pakhira do not go to great depth. Drainage is necessarily poured to the bottom, and the soil is suitable for palm trees and dracaena, which can be bought at a flower shop. To prepare your own potting mix, mix equal parts of sand, leaf and sod land with the addition of charcoal and brick chips. It is not necessary to deepen the roots of pakhira too much, this leads to diseases and growth retardation.
Trimming and shaping. Young branches of pakhira are flexible and easy to form. To make the crown thicker, the stretching shoots need to be cut off, then several young shoots will grow at the cut site. The tree can be shaped like a ball, oval, or create a beautiful weave of several trunks into one. Pruning is best done in spring.
Bloom. Pakhira has very beautiful flowers of pink, cream, less often greenish hue, which smell deliciously of vanilla. Large fragrant blizzard inflorescences reach a length of 10-12 cm. The time when you can see such beauty on a decorative tree is June-November. But at home, they rarely bloom.
In place of flowers, a large fruit is formed, inside of which there are 10-20 brown nuts suitable for human consumption. Upon reaching maturity, the fruit splits on its own.
Reproduction. Two methods of propagation are used: cuttings and seeds. Freshly harvested seeds are sown in a moist earthy mixture, the container is covered with a glass lid, periodically opened for ventilation. The temperature remains at 25-30 ° C. Under favorable conditions, seeds will germinate within three weeks.
Apical cuttings are propagated at the end of summer; for successful rooting, it is imperative to provide good air humidity and a temperature of 26-28 ° C.
Diseases and pests. The main problems arise from improper care: excessive or improper watering, drafts, sunburn, a sharp drop in air temperature. From this, leaves fall, roots and trunks rot.
It is important to regularly monitor the hardness of the pachyra trunk; the resulting softness indicates the initial process of root decay. The tree can be helped by removing the plant from the soil, removing damaged areas, treating the cut sites with activated carbon. Then hold the tree in the open air, after two hours, plant it in a new substrate. You can water the plant no earlier than seven days after transplanting.
Parasites that harm pakhira: thrips, spider mites, aphids, scale insects.
Pakhira in winter. Do not place a flower near central heating radiators, remove from drafts and cold winds. The temperature in winter must be maintained from +16 to + 18 ° С.
