Selection and purchase of seedlings. You should choose a seedling no older than 4 years old, it is able to give many young shoots and will take root more easily. The bark of the plant must be clean without damage. Carefully inspect the root system, if it is dry, place the bush in water for 2-3 hours, this will allow the seedling to be saturated with moisture, which will have a good effect on the quality of rooting.
Plants bought in a specialty store in pots and with top dressing can be planted both in spring and late autumn.
The use of deren in landscape design. Derain is beautiful at any time of the year, besides it is frost-hardy, unpretentious and easy to care for, therefore it is most often used to decorate garden plots. With the use of shrubs, decorative hedges are created, decorate the central parts of the lawn, decorate alleys, rock gardens, mask unsuccessful walls of buildings, and protect the air from exhaust gases. With the advent of deren, the air of the garden area is filled with freshness and a pleasant aroma.
The most popular variety in the landscape design of the Elegantissima sows, it looks gorgeous both in a single planting and in the neighborhood with other plants.
Thanks to its exquisite coloring, this variety always stands out from other crops. To emphasize the beauty of the garden, shrubs are planted in the foreground, this creates the effect of volume and expressiveness. The planted deren bushes along the side of the garden create a unique sight, wrapping the trees with their elegant leaves framed with a white stripe, like lace. Derain is an excellent solution for any kind of dense hedge, as the shrub can be cut and trimmed to form a suitable option, taking into account the characteristics of the site.
An ornamental bush can be placed in the center of the flower bed, where annual crops such as petunia, tagetas, begonia, low-growing roses will be planted. Against its background, variegated flowers will be more noticeable. Derain feels good in a company with other perennials, conifers, spireas, junipers and barberries. If planted around an artificial reservoir, the shrub will reliably protect the coast from shedding of soil.
Location and landing. It grows well in the shade of other plants, but to get beautiful colors, you should not hide the shrub from the sun too much, the best option is a light partial shade. The soil should be at a normal acidity level. It easily takes root on light sandstones, loamy and rocky areas. Derain will be comfortable near water bodies or in the vicinity of trees that are often watered. Periodic addition of complex and mineral fertilizers promotes the development of lush foliage and shoots.
Planting time is early spring or late autumn, it is advisable to be in time before the onset of cold weather. The prepared hole should be slightly larger than the earthen lump of the seedling. First, a mixture of humus, mineral additives and leafy earth is poured to provide the young bush with nutrition. Then the introduced soil is compacted with water, the seedling is also watered. After 15 minutes, trying not to damage the root system, they are placed in the hole together with a lump of earth. Having tamped the soil, the young bush is watered. Loosening of the land is carried out as needed.
Derain is not too demanding, it can be successfully grown even by gardeners who have little time to care for plants. Without special costs for planting and growing, the result exceeds all expectations. The elegant beauty of the shrub will expand the boundaries of the garden, make it lighter and more elegant.
Watering. During the drought period, the plant is watered 2-3 times a month. One bush accounts for 1.5-2 buckets of water. At other times, the lawn does not need additional watering, it has enough moisture, which comes with precipitation.
Loosening, mulching. For mulching, rotted peat, tree bark or chips are used. Enough 1-2 centimeters of the mulching layer to protect the soil from drying out. In order to control weeds, the trunks of young shrubs are loosened by 5-7 cm.
Top dressing. It is recommended to apply mineral and organic fertilizing once a year. In the spring, 100-150 g of mineral fertilizers per bush. In summer, 6-7 kg of compost per trunk circle. In the store you can buy complex mineral fertilizers, which contain all the nutrients that the plant needs after wintering.
Trimming and shaping. To preserve its decorative properties, the shrub needs shaping. The bright color of the bark of young branches fades over time, it is necessary to stimulate the growth of new shoots.
An oval or round shape is best suited for the tree, but you can get creative and give its crown the most intricate look. If the gardener wants to see the turf as a tall tree, the main branches are shortened in autumn, leaving only 3-4 trunks. In order for the shrub that decorates the central part of the planting to retain a compact and beautiful appearance, it needs regular pruning of irregularly protruding shoots.
In spring and autumn, the crown is thinned out, old branches that have lost their shine and weakened are removed. In a deer, planted as a hedge, pruning is done after the active growth of shoots - in June and August.
Flowering and fruiting. Flowering occurs in the second half of April, the bush is covered with small white, yellow flowers. Closer to autumn, bluish fruits appear, which, in addition to their decorative properties, are used in folk medicine to treat many diseases of an inflammatory nature.
Reproduction and grafting. Dogwood is propagated by seeds, layering and cuttings. The most productive way is by cuttings. Slightly lignified cuttings are separated from a strong, large bush, which are planted in spring in special containers with nutritious soil. During the summer, they are kept in a greenhouse, watered, fertilized with mineral and organic fertilizers. By the beginning of autumn, the shoots are ready for planting in the chosen place.
Diseases and pests. Derain is very rare. Rarely, aphids or fungal infections can worsen the appearance of the shrub. Fungal bacteria grow in a humid environment, if you notice signs of disease, stop watering the soil. Cleaning from pests is carried out by flushing with a strong stream of water or using special means. With minor lesions, it is enough to treat it with laundry soap; in more advanced cases, you can not do without potent chemicals.
Derain in winter. The bright shoots of the ornamental shrub stand out in contrast against the white snow cover. Derain is resistant to frost and sudden changes in air temperature, so there are practically no special recommendations for wintering. It is enough to sprinkle a little with snow and tamp the trunk circle.
