A graceful plant, enchanting with its elegant appearance, will add a bright, sunny look to any interior. Large varieties are suitable for decorating spacious office spaces, and small plants will look cozy in small rooms of an apartment. Hardy, elegant dracaena looks great in winter gardens.

The plant is not whimsical, but for successful growth it still requires some care. A spectacular flower prefers spaciousness and good lighting. She does not need direct sunlight, but with a lack of light, she can get sick. It feels best on the west or east side of the room, where it is possible to receive bright, diffused light.

Dracaena is able to endure the dryness of the air, but it is better not to subject the flower to such tests and to worry about creating the necessary air humidity, to spray and arrange a warm shower in hot weather.

Lighting. For fragrant dracaena, it is preferable to have a bright place without direct rays. The plant can grow in partial shade, however, for the good development of dracaena, a lot of light is needed, especially for variegated forms.

In the summer, it is recommended to take the dracaena fragrance out into the open air with shade from direct sunlight.

Temperature. The optimum temperature for the content of fragrant dracaena is 19-25 ° C. In winter - not lower than 14 ° С. On hot days in summer and when the central heating is on in winter, dracaena should be provided with additional watering. In the cold season, protect the plant from drafts.

Air humidity. Dracaena of this variety more or less tolerate dry air, but its leaves can turn yellow and fall off. In this case, the plant must be regularly sprayed (1-2 times a day). This will reduce the drying process of the dracaena leaf tips.

It is recommended that you arrange a warm shower for the dracaena in order to wash the dust off the leaves. If the air in the room is too dry, place a flowerpot with a flower on a pallet with damp expanded clay, this will help prevent yellowing and leaf fall.

Watering. Watering is neat, dracaena cannot be poured. Let the soil dry 2-3 cm between waterings. It is highly recommended to loosen the topsoil for aeration at least once a month.

The salt crust formed on top must be periodically removed and fresh substrate added.

In winter, watering is more moderate, but do not overdry the earthy coma, especially if there is central heating in the room.

Top dressing. You can feed fragrant dracaena all year round. However, in the autumn-winter period, feeding should be limited to 1 time per month with half the dose.

In summer and spring, from March to September, fertilizing is carried out 2 times a month in moist, recently watered soil. Usually they use a complex fertilizer or a special one for palms and dracaena.

Transfer. Young dracaena is best replanted in spring after 2 years by transshipment, older plants - after 3-4 years.

The land for replanting can be used purchased for palm trees and dracaena. It is recommended to add a little sand, pieces of charcoal to the substrate (to prevent root diseases), you can add a little small brick chips to increase the looseness of the soil.

For dracaena fragrants, as for other dracaena, good large drainage is important.

Trimming and shaping. Dracaena pruning is carried out by cutting off the top of the plant. You can leave 4-5 sheets on the trunk. To try to get "candles", a plastic bag is put on the cut site to maintain the required humidity. If you are lucky, 3-5 lateral buds near the cut site will awaken in about a month. As the fresh shoots grow, the bag is removed.

It is best to form a plant in spring or summer, during a period of active growth.

Reproduction. The cut off top of the dracaena can be used for reproduction. The optimum length of the cut off top for these purposes is 10 - 15 cm. To obtain roots, the top can be placed in an opaque container with water and pieces of carbon (activated carbon). Rooting can also be carried out directly in soil or sand.

Fragrant dracaena also propagates by pieces of stem 5-7 cm long. To do this, you need to pour a substrate 5-7 cm thick and the same layer of wet sand into the container. Stick a piece of the stem into the wet sand to a depth of two centimeters. Subsequently, the cutting will take root in the sand, then it will not need to be transplanted in the soil and the root system will not be injured.

Diseases and pests. Dracaena can be damaged by scale insects, scale insects and spider mites. For prophylaxis, arrange periodically warm showers for the dracaena and gently wipe the casting with a damp cloth.

However, problems can often be caused by other reasons, for example: improper watering, dry air, drafts or lack of nutrients in the soil.

A signal that a flower needs help is wilting, dropping or drying of leaves, the appearance of brown spots on their surface.
