Landscaping. And flowers will grow on the stones

Landscaping. And flowers will grow on the stones

The selection of plants begins after the place is determined, which they will occupy.

This place can be a terrace, a retaining wall, or just a stone fence.

If this is a terrace, then you need to pay attention to its location and the style of the entire site.

The owner of the estate will be happy to decorate the terrace with coniferous trees. You need to pick them up so well that they emphasize all the sophistication and nobility of the environment.

For a small garden, maybe even a little wild, hanging ivy or clematis lashes are more suitable. A small pond can complement the romantic setting.

For those who like to create a bright and variegated picture in their garden, chamomiles, bells and Turkish carnations of various colors will help. To create a cheerful mood and not to lose it on a gloomy day, contemplation of the wall overgrown with variegated flowers will help.

If the task is simply to decorate the wall without any style, then ground cover plants that can crawl up the wall are usually preferred. Thyme and mountain gerbil are used for this purpose. Inhabitants of the Edelweiss and Saxifrage mountains will feel great with small petals, miniature ear primroses and arabis. All these plants will perfectly decorate the wall.

Multicolored violets, various types of lobelias, and various cotoneaster feel good in masonry crevices. Alpine asters, stonecrop and rejuvenation are also suited to life in cracks.

It is customary to decorate the bottom of the wall with climbing and creeping plants. Climbing roses or clematis of various types will look good. You can give the top of the wall to carpet phlox and try to use fragrant plants there.

The garden will look elegant all year round if there is a composition of evergreen woody ornamental plants on its terrace. Woody plants can be in a wide variety of forms. Plants can be spherical with hanging shoots, and shoots can also creep along the ground. Dwarf conifers are also suitable for decorating this corner of the garden.

All types of dwarf plants also look great on retaining walls. They will take root better if planted while building the wall. Many other plants can be planted between the clutches. Even ordinary garden flowers, if they have small roots, can take root. And heather, herbaceous perennials, saxifrage feel great there. You can add sedums to their company, rejuvenated, creeping tenacious.

Alpine plants look great on a stone wall. But you need to know the conditions for their growth. Moisture is greatest at the bottom of the wall, near the ground. The upper part is drier. Therefore, in order to get a solid carpet on the wall, the most resistant and unpretentious types of plants are chosen. When the wall is covered with a solid dense carpet, the plants will not be afraid of wind and temperature drops.

The soil for alpine plants must be chosen carefully. They like not very acidic and slightly alkaline soils. And waterlogged and black earth ones are not suitable for these plants. In such soils, color is quickly lost, and plants do not take root well.

In advance, you need to prepare the soil for planting plants in a stone wall. Sod land, gravel or coarse sand and peat mass are mixed in equal proportions. In high humidity, alpine flowers begin to rot, so the soil should not be too wet.

When building a wall, you need to leave pockets in the masonry where the plants will be planted. Usually, with such a planting, plants take root better, and it is much more convenient to plant them.

Sometimes you need to plant a plant on a finished wall. In this case, part of the soil from the gap must be taken out and the soil mixture prepared in advance should be placed in its place. Small plants and cuttings with roots are planted in this mixture. To prevent the roots from drying out, they are wrapped in wet moss. Be sure to check if there is any empty space near the roots. Plants are watered with a garden sprayer. Never use a garden hose.

There are several rules when planting a plant in a wall:

  • - plant a plant in a wall during its construction;
  • - do not plant plants too closely;
  • - to plant, taking into account the conditions of their growth;
  • - constantly check if the roots are not exposed;
  • - after planting, be sure to water the plant.

In winter, frosts can destroy the plant. Especially if there is little snowfall in winter. Therefore, it is advisable to cover the plants for the winter. In the spring, the shelter is removed and the plants are checked and replaced. At the same time, the color scheme and texture of flowers are taken into account so that the composition is not disturbed.

On retaining walls, you can often change flowers, making up new compositions.

With proper care, the garden will look great all year round and delight with its magnificent view.
