CheckoutEngaged in home plant growing, you fill your home with beauty and comfort, improve the microclimate and get moral satisfaction. Increasingly, modern flower growers are practicing a convenient method of growing plants - the hydroponic method.
This is far from a new technology, just not everyone is familiar with its features.
Hydroponics - growing plants without using soil, the roots are placed in a substrate that serves as a support for the root system, and the plant receives useful elements from a special solution. For full development, plants need sufficient amounts of nutrients, they also need light, air, water, and it is quite possible to do without soil. The main thing is the exact proportion of trace elements, the right temperature and sufficient lighting.
Unlike traditional cultivation, this method allows you to be more environmentally friendly, does not pollute reservoirs with fertilizers and save 80-90% of water. You don't need any special skills or abilities to grasp the basics of hydroponics on your own.
Just remember a few important tips and you will have unlimited possibilities for creating an amazing and unique hydroponic garden.
You will need a specially designed water pot, which contains two containers: an internal and an external one.
Inner part - with holes through which minerals and oxygen will flow.
It is filled with an air-permeable substrate, for which expanded clay with a size of 2-15 mm, vermiculite, agroperlite, moss or coconut fiber is suitable.
After placing the liquid level indicator (a device in the form of a tube with a float inside), you must place the inner container in the outer pot with the nutrient solution.
Requirements for the outer vessel: stability, water resistance, and, of course, decorative beauty.
Forget about frequent watering, as the plant is in a special container with a supply of water. The permissible water temperature is considered to be 20 ° C. You need to add water when the pointer float is at "minimum". Top up with warm water up to the “optimal” mark.
In order not to provoke decay of the roots, it is better not to fill the flowerpot with water to the maximum mark, this can be done only in rare cases, for example, if you are going to leave for a while.
Make sure that the liquid level indicator is not entangled in roots. Remove the inner container periodically to check the pointer.
Solution change. The nutrient solution must be replaced every two to three years. In this case, the outer and inner vessel, expanded clay, as well as the liquid level indicator must be rinsed with water at room temperature. Then put everything in its place and fill the outer vessel with new water with the addition of fertilizers.
Transfer. With the right inner pot, the plant won't have to be replanted too often. When the roots of the plant have taken up the entire vessel, be sure to transplant it into a more spacious container. Trim roots that are too long with garden shears, and fill the pot with new expanded clay.
Grow best in hydroponic culture: Asparagus, Asplenium, Anthurium, almost all Acanthus, Aspidistra, Bilbergia, Cissus, Hydrangea, Hibiscus, Dieffenbachia, Kalanchoe, Palms, Spathiphyllum, Uzambara Violet, Fatskhedera, Philodendronera ...
This method is used not only indoors, in this way it is quite possible to grow plants outdoors under the open sun. To avoid the difficulties of choosing a solution, lighting and calculating the optimal indicators, you can purchase a special hydroponic installation, and all you have to do is plant the seeds.
Hydroponics is a great way to originally decorate your home with ornamental plants, build a mini-garden, phyto painting, vertical flower beds or living walls.
On the basis of hydroponics, phytowalls and vertical gardens are created - a fashionable solution to give the room decoration, improve the microclimate, and mask the unevenness of the walls. Carried away by this growing method, you will not want to stop there, find out more, consult with experts and add live colors to your room.
