The "Kortland" apple variety is of American origin. Bred by crossing apple-trees "Macintosh" and "Ben-Davis" varieties. It is now widely distributed throughout the world, incl. in the Lower Volga region in Russia, in the eastern regions of Ukraine. Productivity: average.
Tree shape. It is a vigorous variety, grows up to 5-6 meters in height. The crown is spreading, voluminous, dense, rounded.
The variety is self-fertile and needs pollinators. Top pollinators: Golden Delicious and Boyken. Fruit. Begins to bear fruit 5-6 years after planting.
Fruits are round, yellow with a red blurred striped blush over the entire surface when fully ripe, with a bluish bloom, medium, weighing 90-140 g. The pulp is white, juicy, dense, fine-grained. The skin is smooth, thin, with a bloom. The fruit is picked in October, and can be stored in the refrigerator until April. Taste: sweet and sour, with a rich aroma. Ripening period: October.
Location and landing. The seedling of the late autumn variety "Kortland" grows best in loose, fertile, sandy loam soils, medium loamy, black soil. In order for the tree to grow well and bear fruit, you should choose a bright, not ventilated place for planting. Planting time: autumn or spring, when the ground warms up a little.
