Chokeberry

Chokeberry (lat. Arónia melanocárpa) or Aronia chokeberry is a small tree or shrub, 1.5-2 meters high. Aronia is grown as an ornamental, fruit or medicinal shrub. The fruits of Aronia chokeberry contain a large complex of vitamins, pectins, macro- and microelements. Berries and rowan juice are used to lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Also, aronia berries increase immunity and have a positive effect on the endocrine system.

Shape, dimensions. Young seedlings have a compressed, compact shape, in adulthood it acquires a sprawling shape, grows up to 1.5-2 meters in height and 1.5-2 meters in diameter.

Bloom. It begins in the second half of May - in early June, within 10-15 days, after the appearance of leaves. The flowers are small, pink or white, collected in inflorescences.

Fruiting. The fruits are sweet and sour, slightly tart, spherical, black, shiny. Ripen in August-September.

Location and boarding. Undemanding to soils. Propagated by cuttings, layering, seeds.

Application. As an ornamental shrub, it looks great as a solitary plant. Also grown for medicinal purposes.

Contraindications. Since aronia berries lower blood pressure and increase acidity, consumption is contraindicated in low blood pressure, hypotension, ulcers, hyperacidity and blood clotting.
