Tsikas drooping - Care

Lighting. Tsikas needs bright lighting, but direct rays of the sun are contraindicated for him. In summer, you can take the plant out to the balcony or terrace.

Due to the lack of lighting, the stems of the plant stretch out and wither soon.

Temperature. Tsikas is normal at a warm, moderate temperature of 22-25 ° C in summer. But in winter, it is better to lower the temperature of the content to 13-15 ° C.

Air humidity. Tsikas tolerates dry air, but high humidity is still preferable for the plant. Gratefully perceives regular spraying, the main thing is that the water does not fall on the plant cone.

Watering. Does not like waterlogging. In the spring and summer, it is recommended to water 1-2 times a week. Between waterings, the soil should dry out to a depth of 2 cm.

Important: as with spraying, it is necessary to ensure that water does not fall on the cicas cone. It contains kidneys, which can rot from moisture.

In winter, watering should be even more moderate.

Top dressing. In spring and summer, once every two to three weeks with a complex universal or fertilizer for palms. In winter, you can feed it with half the dose.

Transfer. The transplant is carried out in the spring, every 2-3 years. Soil for palm trees with a small addition of sand is suitable for the cycad. When transplanting, the condition of the roots is examined, they provide good drainage, the bump is very slightly deepened into the substrate.

If a transplant is not needed for an adult plant, the top layer of the earth is simply replaced.

Trimming and shaping. Tsikas usually do not need pruning. But if the plant was standing in a dimly lit place, the new fronds (stems) of the cicas will be weak and elongated. These poorly developed stems can be cut off and the cicassus should release new leaves next spring.

Bloom. In indoor conditions, the cycad palm rarely blooms. Inflorescences are formed on the cicas cone.

Reproduction. Cycas are propagated by seeds as well as by children that grow on a cycad cone.

The plant is removed from the pot, the offspring (baby) is cut off the trunk, the cut is sprinkled with crushed coal or treated with a fungicide to avoid rotting.

The baby's cone is immersed three-quarters in a soil substrate, perlite or sand and watered 2-3 times in the first week. In the second and subsequent weeks, watering is reduced to 1 time per week. After 4-9 months, the plant will take root and can be transplanted to a permanent place of residence.

Cycad seeds germinate within 2 months after sowing.

Diseases and pests. Tsikas are susceptible to attack by scale insects, thrips and spider mites.

Also, the plant suffers from overflow and moisture ingress on the cone. Root rot may develop, making the plant difficult to recover.

Plants in winter. During the dormant period, from November to February, do not flood the plant!

Please note: All parts of the plant are quite poisonous when raw. Don't let your cat chew on the bud and stem!

Cycad palm helps to harmonize the nervous system.
