Buying an ATV is an investment in equipment that must work where a regular car quickly loses its cross-country ability. But the mistake of many buyers is that they choose a model based on appearance, wheel size, or maximum power, without paying attention to the transmission, cooling system, drive, and service availability.
If you are only comparing ATVs, it is worth starting not with the design, but with real tasks: work on the site, off-road trips, hunting, fishing, expeditions, or quiet отдых outside the city. It is the usage scenario that determines whether you need 4x4 drive, low gear, liquid cooling, a winch, and reinforced suspension.
Most utility ATVs are equipped with a CVT variator. This is a convenient transmission, but it is sensitive to the wrong operating mode. Beginners often drive in the high gear “H” even when towing a trailer, storming a swamp, or clearing snow with a blade. Under such conditions, the variator belt overheats and wears out quickly.
For heavy tasks, it is better to choose models with a low gear “L”. It is needed if the ATV will be used for working with a trailer, driving on snow, swamps, clay, or steep climbs. For regular loads, the presence of a reinforced variator, available belts, and service spare parts is also important.
The cooling system directly affects the engine life. Air cooling is suitable for light rides, moderate speed, and short trips without significant load. But if the equipment works in the field, forest, at low RPMs, or with a trailer, natural airflow may not be enough.
Liquid cooling with a radiator and fan is better suited for utility ATVs. It helps stabilize the engine temperature during slow movement, cargo towing, or prolonged work on difficult terrain.
